how far apart to latout 12AX7's?

I'm laying out a D-clone. I added reverb and things are getting a little tight. How close to each other can I put the preamp tubes?

You could go 1.75 inches center to center without problems. If you really have to squeeze things, maybe 1.5 inches. I would try to give a little more space between, say, a AX7 and power tubes.

At a minimum, I'd say you need to be able to put a finger between the tubes, so maybe .75" to 1" space between the glass? That's probably 1.5" on center. Closer than that and you are going to run into wiring challenges on the inside of the amp.

If you have to, you can go closer - check out the attached picture of my Hammond AO-35 conversion to 18W Stout.

It's about 1/4" between the glass, about 1.125" on center.

It was tight working in there, but it works!
