Variable Power Supply for amp design projects?

Post by Tonefishin »

Has anyone found a decent and at least occasionally available variable power supply that works well with guitar amp design projects?

Up to 400V would be nice, and heater supplies would be super sweet.

Do you know of any out there?

Thanks!!

How about you just build a standalone powersupply based on just about any guitar amp and install Dana's VVR in it

Sounds like fun, but wouldn't that be an expensive route?

I bought an Edcore transformer with 275-0-275, 300-0-300, 325-0-325, 350-0-350 windings and use it my prototype chassis. each winding is on a screw type connector strip so I just use whichever I want, works great for deciding on tube or ss rectifier too.

That sounds like a great option. Which one did you get?

Theres a $20 engineering charge and then you can choose whatever voltages, amperages and 6.3v amperages you want...Very reasonable as I remember, maybe $60-$70

I don't know a great deal about power scaling but perhaps the technology lends itself to application as a bench powersupply. Also an opportunity to learn it to apply to builds.
