Soldano SLO channel separation mod

Post by Yoda »

Hello all,

Does anybody have technical info on how to do the Soldano SLO-100 mod where you can separate the clean and OD channels via concentric pots? I’m not finding much other than a company named Kruse offering the mod.

Thanks in advance.

It‘s just adding two relays and a stacked concentric 500k pot for the gain knobs. You can use a stacked concentric pot for the master as well, but for simplicity’s sake I just hardwired a 1M to ground simulating a master volume on 10 when the clean channel is active. Like an old Fender, I just need one volume for clean. Then the crunch channel inherits the stock master volume. Otherwise you have to custom build a 1M stacked concentric pot by dismantling two 1M pots, stealing the conductive elements, and installing those in a 500K concentric stacked pot similarly disassembled and reassembled. The two relays just switch signal coming and going between the two insertion points at the gain / mv. The pcb already uses a relay to do the clean crunch toggle on the front panel. So you coordinate the NC on that with the NC on the pots. The hard part is finding the 12V supply, ground /return point for completing the circuit, tip switching at the footswitch jack to allow the front toggle to only work when nothing is in the jack, crafting a roadworthy physical layout, the drilling, and of course not destroying your amp by blowing away a solder pad. And despite following all precautions I still get a pretty good pop sometimes when switching to the clean channel. I have mitigated this completely using a mute function on the H90 when I go to the clean channel (I use midi for all channel switching as you have to manipulate two circuits clean/normal, and when on normal: clean/crunch.)

using the OD channel and turning down volume also works. if you switch channels, however, the clean volume will lack volume, unless you really need to crank the clean MV and to turn down the OD MV

Thanks, that’s the best description I’ve been able to find. It may be all there is to go off of so I am studying the schematic to see where the new relays and concentric pots should go and see if how much I can plan it out and see if it’s even feasable.

good idea! there are some dual concentric 1ma pot available though: https://tlcguitargoods.com/en/alpha-100 ... meter.html

Thanks for that.

It’s not for me so if I figure this out I’m sure the customer is gonna want two concentric pots.
