The above reply to the op is correct in regards to the relationship between the two.

THank you for birgning up this precision. I was under a wrong impression, based on a lack of knowlage it seems.

Reason is the logarithmic sensitivity of the human ear.
So it takes 10 times the sound pressure to double subjective loudness.
(3dB is a factor of 2, 10dB is a factor of 10.)
