Hi folks,
since getting a Supro 1688TN clone, i can't stop thinking how great it would be to get the exact sound in a pedal. I've compared many tremolo pedals to it and some amps and it is just the smoothest, deepest, swampiest and non-distorted-sounding trem. On live volumes it is just sublime. Funny enough it also just blows away the trema on the current "reissue" trems, which are weak in comparison.
The one pedal that comes closest is the Kingsley bard. It is supposedly a Princeton based trem that uses one triode and one transistor for the oscillator and one triode of which the bias is being "wiggled".
Compared to that the supro still has a lot more reserve in regard to intensity and speed.
From what i understand from the schematic is that in this design the second gain stage's bias is being "wiggled" - so in the preamp. This makes me think that if one would adapt this for a pedal, one could expect a reasonably close sounding trem effect to the amp, as in the amp it is early on in the gain stages/amplification.
A friend helped me develop a nixie style psu similar to the kingsley psu, but smaller, so i can easily run 1 or 2 12ax7's in a pedal format off of 9v or 12v respectively.
I am thinking - would it be possible to get away with just one 12ax7 and a transistor without loosing sound, depth and speed of the oscillator Kingsley Bard style?
Here is the 1688TN trem: https://el34world.com/charts/Schematics ... ch6159.gif
I have a schematic of the Bard too, but do not want to post it publicly out of respect for the builder, but if anyone wants to get involved, i can send it privately.
The plan would be to build a really great tube bias trem that beats others available on the market. Build wise it ahould be simple - a handfull of parts and the PSU i can source for a reasonable price.
I am looking for someone woth the knowledge and interest about this and am willing ro share all the info i have.
So, would be great of this sparks the interest of one of you knowledgeable guys who can get this done right.

Re: Supro 1688TN based tremolo pedal?
Sounds interesting. I have built the Kingsley Page and another dual tube pedal, based on ZWreck/Rocket preamp.
I can certainly breadboard both Trems (Supro and Bard, albeit the Supro will need the gain stage before the trem, which is what the transistor does in Kingsley circuit is my guess).
Not sure that I understand what’s the goal, though? You would like to verify the concept and clean up the design or is it something else?
Sorry, might be just me that’s missing it

oscillator don't care if it's made of sand or glass or it's generated digitally because it's out of the signal path. what really matters is where you do the wiggling (i'm a big fan of the vibrochamp trem but also dug the trem i had on an old sunn sceptre)VintageCharlie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 8:22 pm I am thinking - would it be possible to get away with just one 12ax7 and a transistor without loosing sound, depth and speed of the oscillator Kingsley Bard style?
