They made it clear they were shooting to make them more affordable. The process of the 300B is designed for HiFi and therefore has extremely tight tolerances, but they felt that for guitar amps they could be a bit less strict and make them affordable. OTOH their definition of affordable may not meet everyone elses :D

Ok then...so I looked. A pair of new production WE 300B sell for only $1499. Yeah, no decimal point. I am afraid to see what their idea of "affordable" means.

Never thought it was. It was quite punny. (Also not a typo.) As for WE tubes, I was thinking about half what you said, and people will pay willingly, even if the baby doesn't get his milk.

We can hope that they arrive at some moderate price. I wonder what massive really is. World wide how many amp freaks are there? Is it a million, is it 100,000? How to calculate this?

“After the overwhelming response from our little announcement, we know for a fact that the guitar amp crowd is massive,” a spokesperson told Guitar.com(opens in new tab).
While Western Electrics hi-fi tubes are very expensive, the firm thinks the costs associated with the production of guitar amp tubes would be much lower, citing the example of a 12AX7 tube as “significantly easier and less labour-intensive” than its current hi-fi offering, the 300B.

Ok, 50% spread on the hi/lo. If I am right everyone has to buy $10 worth of bitcoin and if Phil is wrong he has to buy $10 worth of bitcoin.

If I am wrong we won't speak about it.

I hate to say this. I fudged my numbers -25%.

It’s not just guitar amps new and used that need to be supplied!
My guess is that world wide if you take even just 25% of the total number of preamp tubes needed that such would be a accurate number of how many condenser tube Mic’s are out there also that one day will need a tube!

At this point, restrictions on trade with Russia are only getting tighter. EH's claim may have been a bit premature.

With what Putin and his military are doing to fully helpless Ukraine people I would never by or even use for free a new Russian made tube again unless it was from this point on already here in my country !!!
Please think of Russian tubes as a thing of the past!

Just for implying I had to buy bitcoin, means you have to gift me 10$ in bitcoin.

-sigh-

What's today? For just over a month I have been on a 'special educational operation' against russian bullshit. I won't be buying anything from RU, ever. It goes far beyond Putin, deeper than an ocean. Anyhow..
