Re: Wire Preference
Thanks for all your replies! From what it seems, a lot of it is preference. I think I am going to go with solid cloth for the 5F1, more for a vintage feel and to give solid a chance.

Reviving an old post:
So in terms of functionality and performance, is pre-tinned, stranded wire "the same" as solid core?
I've read about potential adverse side-effects when stranded wire vibrates, but if it's pre-tinned, it's more or less "solid" core, right?

Re: Wire Preference
Wrong! Stranded is stranded! Pre-tinned means it will be easier to solder. What would make wire vibrate in a guitar amp? Countless guitar amps use stranded wire.thisismyname wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 5:33 pm So in terms of functionality and performance, is pre-tinned, stranded wire "the same" as solid core?

Re: Wire Preference
Thanks for the reply!
Vibrating wire, due to louder volumes, causing potential problems, like phasing problems, is just something I've read about a few times, once from Ken Fischer.
Not saying I jumped on the bandwagon with it, but just throwing it out there to see what other people might think.
I'll try using pre-tinned stranded wire.

Never going back after switching to teflon. Burned insulation is a huge pet peeve.
Tube depot has some good 18/20/22ga PTFE stranded wire. Or just ebay.

The place to buy PFTE wire is Apex Jr. Last time I looked (some time ago,) he'll sell you whatever amount you want, in any color you can imagine, for a lower price than anyone else. https://www.apexjr.com/
Re: Wire Preference
If anyone is interested I have some stranded PTFE wire for sale on here.

Re: Wire Preference
A member here turned me on to the Belden topcoat pretinned wire. It's got a 600V rating, and the jacket is rated for 105C, so I don't melt it when I accidentally bump it with my iron. The jacket *is* pretty thick, though. However, being pretinned, it will somewhat stay in place like solid core. It's the best of both worlds for me.
Re: Wire Preference
Does anyone make pretinned ptfe?
