Pots and more..

Post by roadkingbluzs »

I was starting to place order with tubes and more and found that the pots listed are not the same value or part number. can anyone clear up values with the designation ##KA & ##KB. Is the KB a basic K (linear) or? Bob

A is audio (logarithmic), B is linear.

Just making sure as the catalog does not list a "B" . Thanks for the note. Now to place order! Bob

A is not always "audio". For milspec pots (RVXXXXA), A and B are Linear, and C iand D are Log(audio).

However, from the same manufacturer (ex PEC), for the commercial part number the A -is- audio, and U is linear.

Go figure.

Okay, I know this will sound ridiculous. I replaced a tone pot in my son's guitar with one of the Mighty Mite dime sized pots - 500k (trying to shoe-horn a Sustainer in there you see). Anyway, the pot has "D500" stamped on the back. I assume the "D" doesn't necesarily mean "dime" (Asian hardware I'm sure), nor would I presume that Mighty Mite hardware is built to MIL standards.

Just curious if anyone knows what the"D" means here. I had assumed it would be audio (GC parts area - salesman didn't know); tone is controllable.

Thanks.

With some exceptions as already mentioned above almost always

A = audio/logarithmic

B = linear

C = reversed audio

D = special taper after customer's request

Larry (neither linear, nor logarithmic) :lol:

I would always suggest going to the manufacturers website and looking it up to just to make sure.

http://www.mightymite.com/e_parts/index.html

They do list the D500k as being an audio pot.

Maybe not! On some schematics, both relating to audio taper pots, -A means old log taper (70/30), -B means new (90/10).

I know, I know, you didn't want to hear that! Me neither.
