Humdinger Fitting?

Post by dyker124 »

Hi All,

I am fitting a 100 ohm Humdinder pot to my 15w amplifier. Heaters are 6.3v and take just over 2 amps.

Is it okay to twist all three wires together (6.3v pair plus ground) that are going to the three pot terminals, or should I just twist the two outers (6.3vac pair) and leave the ground out of the twist?

Your advice would be appreciated.

You can twist all three together. A 100Ω pot may be too small, though. With 6.3VAC across it it will be dissipating 0.4W, and most are rated at 0.25W, with some at 0.5W. 500Ω would be a better choice.

All three it is then. I had thought about the power rating of the pot, but it has been purchased as a CTS "Fender Humdinder" pot (in Fender packaging) for Fender amplifiers, so I think may have a higher power rating that the 'normal' CTS pots. Although my research has failed to establish what power rating it actually is.
