Hi,
I've got a switch that would be great for my impedance selector, but it is listed as "shorting," which I assume means make before break. Is that preferable for an impedance selector anyway?
Thanks!

Speaker impedance selector switch - shorting, or not?

Don't know about that but I just ordered a speaker impedance selector switch from Hoffman.
I don't think I would turn the switch unless the amp was off anyway.
Pretty heavy duty switch compared to the D'Lite one.
$9.50

Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

That's right. It is a "make-before-break" type of contact. It shouldn't make any difference since it should only be changed with the amp off. Mainly, you need to make sure the switch is heavy duty enough to handle the load.greiswig wrote: ...I've got a switch that would be great for my impedance selector, but it is listed as "shorting," which I assume means make before break...

An open circuit is an invitation to disaster when under load. But noone does that while playing, do they?

Make-before-break is safest (i.e., most idiot-resistant ), but either will work fine as long as you don't switch it while playing.

By the way, it's perfectly safe to change the impedance selector while on 'standby.'

Re: Speaker impedance selector switch - shorting, or not?
Interesting. No amp I've ever had (2 Mesas, one Bad Cat) has put anything in the instructions about not switching the speaker impedance with the amp in "play" status.
