50W Laney Restore or Trash?

Post by Junkin8ez »

Found this Laney 50W cleaning out a shed. Restore it or use it for a boat anchor?

That thing looks sweet! I wouldn't trash it. No way!

Looks like a mouse had a field day in there! Test the PCB board for mouse urine connectivity and try to identify the chewed wire replacements. I'd say it is 50/50. I the board is conductive, then forget it.

Clean it up, remove the PCB, and build your favorite circuit into it.

Don't spare the bleach on the chassis/head cab clean-up------that debris could be toxic.

Here's an old Laney 50 that I gutted/rebuilt with ideas from SLO/Avenger schematics (and a turret board).

I did this one many years ago:

You could build anything from a Plexi circuit to a full on Modern Metal circuit.

Whatever suits your taste.

Possibly even rebuild it stock but it might be easier to start over and build a new circuit inside the amp.

I'd definitely gut it and rebuild it also. I don't see any reason that you can't use the chassis and the transformers.

It needs a serious clean up but that shouldn't be too hard a job. A little elbow grease is all that's needed. You'll still have all the essentials. It's too good to waste.
