These guys are the Amp Syndicate

Post by CaseyJones »

I was just browsing Ultrasound's site, I wonder why I didn't get to it sooner. Unique business plan there and unusual market access. With something like 10 original Trainwrecks for sale and a couple Dumbles available I guess they're the guys to call if you want the real thing.

http://www.ultrasoundampsales.com/

The are of course the "distributors" for Komet and Bruno.

Heaven help you if you're Roccaforte or Bad Cat, though. They've discontinued those lines and, being as they're no longer obliged to sell at the prices suggested by Roccaforte or Bad Cat they're discounting $400 from the manufacturer's lowest suggested retail price.

"Selling" is subjective. I looked at a couple of them, the asking prices start over $30k each. That's like saying, "I'm selling my 'Burst. First $315k takes it!"

They're high end dealers. Everything they have is for sale. Correction: Dumble ODS #167 "is not for for sale at any price".

From Ultrasound's site:

"This very rare, all original Trainwreck Express amp named "Jane" was hand built by legendary amp guru Kenneth Fischer in 1990 and then rebuilt by him in 2006. Over the last few years "Jane" was not sounding 100% so she was sent back to Ken in 2006 and he found some leaking caps. Ken felt "Jane" could be a very special Express if he was allowed to pull out all the stops and rebuild her with his best New Old Stock Trainwreck parts. I gave the go ahead and Ken rebuilt her including New Old Stock Trainwreck power and output transformers, NOS Power filter caps, NOS cathode caps, NOS bias caps, NOS pre amp plate resistors, and more. She was then custom voiced by Ken using the very best rare New Old Stock tubes from my personal collection including Mullard, Amperex Bugle Boy & Telefunken preamp tubes and Siemens EL34 power tubes. "Jane" is now an even greater Trainwreck Express with amazing tone and harmonic complexity. The amp responds instantly to every nuance of your playing style and is absolute tonal magic. (I have complete documentaion of the 2006 rebuild signed by Kenneth Fischer for "Jane")"

how is it subjective? if you have 30k+, you can walk in there and get one. seems for sale to me. as opposed to his tan dumble which is listed as "not for sale at any price at all"

Oh, you could buy Dumble #167. It would be a matter of having deep pockets and the desire to own the best.

From Frank Zappa, "Joe's Garage":

L. Ron Hoover:
Well, you have nothing
To fear, my son!
You are a latent
Appliance fetishist,
It appears to me!
(Fifty bucks, please)

Central Scrutinizer:
So Joe hikes his ass over to Ultrasound on West 30th. When he gets there he sees a little cherry guitar amp, it looks like a cross between a jewelery box and an old McIntosh hi-fi. It's really exciting...and when he sees it, he BURSTS INTO SONG...

Joe:
Fick mich, du
miserabler hurensohn
Du miserabler hurensohn
Fick mich, du
miserabler hurensohn
Streck ihn aus
Streck aus deinen
heissen gelockten
Streck ihn aus
Streck aus deinen
heissen gelockten
Streck ihn aus
Streck aus deinen
heissen gelockten
schwanz
Ah-ee-ahee-ahhhhh!

Oh no, I don't believe
it
You're way more fun
than Mary...

Cherry Lynn:
You're plooking
too hard...

Joe:
And cleaner than
Lucille...

Cherry Lynn:
Plooking on me...

Joe:
What have I
been missing
All these years?

Cherry Lynn:
Too hard

Joe:
Lynn...

Cherry Lynn:
Too hard

Joe:
Lynn..

Cherry Lynn:
Plooking too hard
on me-e-e-e-e...

It's an AMP BROTHEL! Pay $300 per day to rent the amp and around $20 an hour to rent the room, you can HAVE YOUR WAY with ANY AMP YOU WANT!!

You betcha we won't see any of your work listed here.

There are a couple shops where if you get your amps in there you have arrived. You may have the engineering chops but sorry pal you lack the marketing know-how and people skills to ultimately make it work. I should know, I'm a moderately skilled anti-social nerd myself.

That "I'm great, I'm great, I'm so damn great" tune you sing won't play in New York, not unless you really are great. Sorry pal, you ain't got it.

Don't sweat it, it's just Gary being Gary.

The way I read it Gary is too exclusive and special to stoop to the level of Dumbles and Trainwrecks. Remember, he's the guy who is going to turn the amp world on its ear.

...NOS bias caps?
Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

...in other words: rock and roll!
