Hey guys,
I have a 5E3 clone here that makes a pretty weird buzzing noise when playing at high volumes with the low E string.
I know that's a pretty common problems with 5E3's, but this amp never buzzed previously. It almost sounds like the speaker coil is rubbing, but that has been eliminated as a possible problem.
When I went to check it today, I noticed that the bobbin of the OT is pretty loose and wiggling. Looks like any varnish that was holding it steady has cracked and I can now wiggle it and rotate it a few mm.
I've never seen this problem before, so before I order a new OT just to test a theory - I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this problem?

Jam a strip of cardboard (preferably sprayed with varnish first) or wedge of plastic or varnished wood into the gap to make it all tight again. That's what they used to do and you still do when winding your own transformers. Make it all tight again and it'll run fine for years to come.

Better yet trim down and jam a ice cream popcicle stick in the gap from both sides if you can and then snap them off.
