Cool idea. I wonder about doing this in a bassman head? It would make a Fender head usable with an 8 ohm cab!Richie wrote:if you run 4x 6v6 JJ it will still be loud.. another option is wire the socket for EL34..and just use 2 of them..and cathode bias the EL34s.. makes a cool sounding amp..

OK now earlier this year I posted about cathode biasing the amp (Which is something I had wanted to do from the beginning) everybody said it wasn't worth the trouble. Is there a website that has the conversion in detail without loosing the tremolo?
I am going to cathode bias the amp. I want to run 6v6 tubes. I also want to be able to swap in 6l6's or el34's I NEVER run four tubes. I have an 8ohm load.
Would it be possible to set one pair of sockets for 6l6's or el34's and the other pair for 6v6's? I understand that I would have to rebias or at least check it each time and I can live with that. I wont be swapping them between sets. I dont even play live at all. And I have three backup amps when this one is down.

Why not put in a On/None/On switch and wire in your cathode resistors in parallel to the switch, that gives you three values to choose from. Then you can run 2 or 4 6V6's or whatever you want. I've done that on many amps.
I also like the lower voltage on the cathode biased amps. You can use switch on a reverse zener, for a high/low. I think the number is NTE5275AK for a 50 volt drop diode.
