Yep. A really good addition would be a simple 6 position rotary with 5 caps and a bypass for the bright.
NULL, 100p, 250p, 500p,1kp, 5kp, something like that? Also NFB lift and the simple resonance 4700p over a 1M. Very little work for lots of shaping. Like $15 worth of parts.
It will rock anyhow. If he has a situation where he can really drive the power, your buddy is gonna love you. I like a POD into tubes when the tubes are about to melt. Way more tones than a Herzog. heh

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.
Regarding the Plexi
I've recently wondered how feasible it is to bypass the first gain stage and run the signal into the 1 Meg drive pot through the first .022 capacitor. Why, to get the cathode follower compression and distortion...
Would that work? (schematic above)

Re: POD MULE
So just kill one stage? Drop the input right on the grid of the new first stage.
I think it's the wrong thing to do. The last thing I want there is more gain and something changing bandwidth, but yeah.. no need for that coupler, if I am understanding you.
The power I have used was a pair of 25w amps with no controls. The POD output was the master. Plugged into the returns and took the volume up until the tubes did that thing like a mirage where the glass exists only in a quantum state and you could heat a burrito in less than 60 seconds. Hammered.

Thanks Mark. That's the 100w version of how I envisioned to the input into the power amp but was unsure about need for ground reference or grid stopper or coupling capacitor.M Fowler wrote:Without effects loop.
If it don't get hot and glow, I don't want it !
Re: POD MULE
It depends if your friend want a full tube amp, or just to add some tube flavour to the output keeping the weight under control.
You can use a 12ax7 as a preamp (stage baxandall stage) going into a source follower then to a class D power amp. Few kilograms, and can easily fit into a 1RU together with the POD. Want to run it stereo? No problem.

Re: POD MULE
All of these things generally sound better through a Marshall; give him a full pre amp / tone stack.
Add Reeltarded's rotary bright switch etc and he'll probably think it's better without the Pod.

Re: POD MULE
I think most, if not all of the PODs are stereo output. You should really consider a two channel power amp. The time based effects are pretty flat without the stereo and the sound won't measure up to the headphones or direct output.
Edit: I don't think there is any need to overdrive the power amp. It rounds off enough rough edges when running clean.
