fwiw, the Ampeg V series amps don't benefit from them unless you're using the rear panel amp connection. Save them for SVTs and attempts to lower the gain of some amps. Neat tube, really.

The medium-mu side (pins 1,2, & 3 ) is the workhorse, used for cathode follwers, PI's, or a medium gain stage. It can carry quite a bit more current than the high-mu side, which is why it's particularly good for a CF.

The problem is that almost every guitar amp with a cathode follower has it on pins 6,7,8. Aside from VHT, I cannot find any with an "A" section CF. It is not a problem for JJ as they're the only ones who make a reverse 12DW7. For those who want to save on the more valuable Nos tubes, would it be possible to just simply reverse the wiring on the tube socket?

I've heard these make good reverb drivers in Fender circuits too but have yet to confirm that the pin sections are correct for it.

You have to use them up before you die:

AC50s used a 12AU7 for the input, a 12DW7 allows to have original and boosted with little effort. Go build an AC50 (w/ 7591 outputs) :)

Didn't Dynaco use a 12DW7? Do up a dynclonekit w/ 7591 outputs.

That's pretty funny: screwy clever way to get the sound of a vintage Mullard 12AX7 in a TW.

Wow, nice old thread. I'll just pop in to say I use one of these on my Magna-clone.

I'm working on a '66 Guild Thunderbass right now that uses one 7247. Definitely in the market if they test good.
I await your FS listing. :)

Here's the schem. for its use in the TBass. Its v8.

I still have those tubes. If you're interested, let me know and we can work something out. I don't have any way to test them in an amp, but I can test them for shorts, filament continuity, etc.
Don't you boys know any NICE songs?
