I am about to jump into building the Twin from Tino Zottola's book .. using an old Earth bass amp as the starting point.
I have been reading about the horrors of the Polarity switch and the 'Death Cap'. As I understand it, older amps that did not have a grounded plug and the cap and polarity switch created the potential for a nasty shock if you touched another piece of equipment with a polarity that was opposite.
Looking at the layout below, it appears this design has a ground to the wall, but still has the ability to switch polarity (I assume to remove hum?)
Is this design considered safe? Or should I just eliminate the switch and wire up the power 'normally'?

Well. Tino can do whatever he wants but I believe that the National Electrical Code REQUIRES that the power supply ground from the wall be hard wired to the chassis. Direct mechanical/electrical connection. No caps. That is unless the chassis is made of an insulating material and you have submitted the design to Underwriters Laboratorys for testing and approval.

Skip the death cap, it doesn't do anything for you
