I'm thrilled you played "Where Eagles Dare"! Nice work.
Concerning this amp, the presence, and the dual 500K pots are the magic. They make it thick as fuck. It's very articulate with the small caps, and bold withe the NFB/Presence. If you take these things away, well then it sounds like a marshalll mod.
For the presence, mine sounds bad and maybe horn-like when all the way up, but I would never turn presence all the way up, unless to see how shrill an amp can sound. Set at noon, there's no need for resonance over here.
With the master cranked, turning up the dual pot brings a growl that is more complex than a Jcm800.
Apparently Friedman helped develop some parts of the Naylor amps, and produced his own version with the Naked

Sounds killer.Best sounding SD on the tube.
FWIW I like the resonance/OS prescence. The Naylor circuit has "resonance" on it too. I have no issues with being fat the bass on 3 or 4 is plenty.
I went with the single gain control because it sounds better for cleanish playing.I discovered this when I had 2 separate gain controls.

Don't forget about the low input. turn it all the way up and I swear it sounds 'zakly like early skynyrd. If anyone cares about that

Thanks for the naked schem I had heard about but never seen it.Funny that it has a lot of the same tweaks I did to mine.

When you say horn like, do you mean like a tweeter horn?? or do you mean like a trumpet horn? If you mean tweeter, than yes, the Presence can do that if you crank it. I see no need to go beyond half-way with mine.

Yea exactly , any presence is gonna sound tweety all the way up. That was just a subtle plea to give that circuit a shot :D Iveheard a few reports of oscillations. You gotta ge the components right up on the pot. But hey, whatever works.

Yea cbass the low input is totally 70s rockin! Humbuckers are really sweet there.

Yup, I much prefer the SD60 Presence circuit over a standard Pres/Res. You just have to use it judiciously.

I agree about the low input. It sounds really great as well...

This is such an awesome sounding circuit, I kick myself for not trying it sooner...

You guys shutup I don't want to switch it back! :P I need it to sound good all the way up when I do my edge of the hand sweep across the knobs

Is this the actual Naked schem? If so, has anyone built it and compared it to the Freidman Naked 50?
The schematic has the NFB coming off the output jack -are those 2 4k7 resistors in series with the .001 cap on the NFB loop?
Thanks
I'm hoping to hear The Trooper intro on the next clip!

Apparently Friedman designed some part of a Naylor amp or two(can't remember the specifics) . This schematic was traced by someone that had a Naked, traced it, and I imagine the SD60 scheme was used to show the similarities.
I think that's how the story goes.
I've never played a Naked, but I'm currently running this mod in my homebrew, and it sounds fantastic, as does the SD60. I hear the current BE100 is running the NFB off the jack, too. I don't know why but i guess that's just something he likes to do. I just ran it off the 16 tap.
The 2x4K7 is the dropper for that part of the power supply. You can see the other 10Ks drawn above the preamp and CF sections.

Nice clean build FB.

Is the amp also capable of clean tones?
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

Huh. Is one of the 4k7 resistors after the rectifier or a different PT secondary? I'm getting 492v on the plate with my SD 60, and 380v, 320v and 300v respectively across the the PI and preamp.

I doubt it. This series resistor dropping arrangement is common in Marshalls, though it's usually two 10K2W. I imagine before the 4K7s is a choke, then reservoir cap, then rectifier.
Your voltages don't seem too far off, you can see the HT labeled 456, so yours are somewhat proportionally higher. I wouldn't sweat it, I'd be more concerned that your filter caps can handle your HT. You can adjust your droppers to get closer to these preamp values, if you like.
I built mine out of an old Express, and kept the PS the same...maybe changed the dropping string to get to these preamp voltages in the Naked....and I used the Express' big ass resistor instead of choke. So my HT is ~420V, but that's where I like my Marshalls types.
