I have tone stacks on my amps.
AB the cables in a full live band mix, then tell me about subtle differences

Agreed.
I think a lot of us that don't currently gig out spend too much time and money
trying to make our rigs sound really good at lower levels.

But I do think that cables can make a difference beyond the tone knobs.

Hey, it's a hobby and it's fun to obsess over the smallest details.

Wooden knobs DO sound better than plastic ones under clinical listening conditions. But miniature crystal skull knobs trump wood knobs any day of the week.

VoVox. Hands down the best sounding cable I have used. Very expensive too, fortunately they were a gift . I a/b'd them with all the lava , mogami, George L, and many other high end cables.
Smoke em if you got em.

Billy is that the VoVox Sonorus?

I have been curious about how well the solid conductors hold up over time as well as the flexibility.

Probably a very good studio cable.

Thanks for all the input, guys! I think I'll be trying out a few of these cables some time in the future. I'm pretty happy with my Blue Demons, but I'm really itching to try George Ls and Vovox. I'll be selling both Mogami 20 footers I made. Maybe with that cash will come one of those to try. :)

I'd also like to know which one you were referring to, Billy.

I have two vovox sonorus cables 20' and 15' ( the closest metric equivalent).
I originally experimented with the earlier model , Link protect I believe. The sonorus is a bit better but the Link is better than all other cables I have tried.
I have repaired a few of these and they are a bear. The connectors are a bitch to install. Vovox has changed the connector style in the last few years.
They do hold up well and are very flexible. I was not prepared for how much better they sounded . Clarity not brightness. Very clear midrange . Work well for Telecasters and les Pauls.
I use george l for many things like pedal boards and general use guitar cables. I do solder on switchcraft jacks though,
as i find the george l and even lava connectors unreliable.
I also still have some old Belden military cable with solid
brass jacks i made up in the early 70's .

The Vovox have unique internal construction which i have seen only in high end hifi cables.
Austin guitar house has them for demo so bring your cable and guitar and a/b them for your selves. Oz did give me my first one but only after i became sold on them. I did buy the second one. You can get them with right angle jacks too.

Thanks for the info, Billy. Interesting about some having problematic ends. I put the highest dollar Amphenol ends on the Mogamis I made and while I do really, really like the unique locking mechanism inside them, I find they can't really be soldered to my satisfaction. I tend to make excellent connections in everything I wire up and these just aren't constructed for such methods. Funny thing about the LCs, I can't even unscrew the ends on mine without tools. Haven't had issues with them so far, but I don't do intense gigging, so I can't speak for road ruggedness. I talked with a fellow TAG member about George L ends and was informed that they can be quite difficult. Looking forward to trying out the Vovox stuff and see how it does for me.

Has anyone done a sweep response frequency/amplitude plot comparing various cables? Would like to see that.

A friend of mine makes some great cables. http://audioenvy.com/store/

I know I'm new here and this probably seems "spammy," but it seems appropriate in a high-end cable comparison thread. Apologies if the post is out of line. I promise I'm here to learn about amps, not sell cables.

Here's a video comparison with another cable, since that was mentioned in an earlier post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tQ9Erybis8

I like that video keppy. It's surprising the differences, clearly audible through YouTube and my smartphone speaker. I would like to know what the other cable was.

This discussion is making me want to go out and start buying new cables. Hah.

Do you guys find much difference in speaker cables? I've only ever used home made ones for my cabs. Starting to wonder if I may be missing out on a plethora of aural stimuli!

It's interesting to note, the wireless system Reeltarded refers to, must be popular enough to "bring it back":

...evidently the later Cetec versions were different (not as good).

Be sure your tinfoil hat has a good low impedance ground.
