Yeah. My mother got rabbit fever when she was a child and it caused her problems for years, then I came along and previously unbearable pain became a tropical vacation paradise.
Check out the raccoon thread in the garage, btw. Guy was a nut.

Re: poweramp-driven "liquid" distortion.
thanks a lot for the "deaf troll" thing dudes
Of course I didn't mean one can't distinguish SS/tube/digital.
I meant that to my ears 80% of the amps I've heard seem to have the same "foundation", or benchmarks.
Then... the serious stuff.
Went to the biggest store this morning. Spent 4 hours there.
Tried out a (tweed) blues deluxe, a hot rod deluxe, a princetone "recording amp" version, a deluxe reverb, little orange combo and the Italian blackface clone I posted about.
The only 3 of them really got my ears.... Though choice!
Both the deluxe reverb and the blues deluxe would be great, great, you guys were really right... But the blackfaced is pretty more expensive than expected and the tweed would surely need an external power attenuator to breathe really - really a loud one...
And then the Priceton "recording amp"... It's a Princeton with a 10" Jensen speaker, a compressor, an overdrive and an attenuator included. + HP out and line out.
The attenuator dries the thing out a little... if you attenuate above a certain point, the attack and the fender signature warmth just fade out ... But it surely comes in handy as long as it doesn't affect the tone that much... hell that's a great thing to have "already included" in there for me.
And when you switch the attenuator off, it's just a blackface amp, though its tone is not as... I don't know. It's somewhat Lower-fi. I don't know if it's because of cheaper tubes, or because of the 10" speaker, or because of the wattage. Let's say... Blackface tone, yes; deluxe tone, no.
The included "compressor" and "overdrive" effects really sound cheap, I guess that's the reason of the 50% discount - though they told me it's a clearence item...
So... I brought the Princetone home. Around 500€ still in the bank... By now it's all I need.
Yes, you can find posts like this one on some standard guitar forum... some will excuse me for this, some won't. thanks everybody anyway.
a big Thank you guys

Re: poweramp-driven "liquid" distortion.
I get it. Everything has become so expensive and we all want the right thing for the best price.
Glad you are happy!
So, hang around and read until you can take that 500€ and make a great BF clone with it.

You still haven't played a Fender tweed...Edoardo wrote:Tried out a (tweed) blues deluxe..

I hope that works for you. Come back when you're ready to build a lil' tube amp for yourself - a kit to build a Fender-style 5E3 tweed Deluxe is pretty simple. I think you'd really enjoy the experience of building as well as playing.Edoardo wrote:a princetone "recording amp" version...

Yeah that Fender Princeton recording amp seems to sterile to me.

Re: poweramp-driven "liquid" distortion.
Yikes, I just googled "Fender Princeton Recording Amp Schematic" and found way too many threads about difficulty of repairs, too-frequent failures, challenges of getting replacement parts (ex. encoder on the attenuator pot). Thank you, no.
Pass the tubes, please, and keep it simple. More tone, less fizz.

Re: poweramp-driven "liquid" distortion.
dang! I cant even buy the parts for a good build for under a grand - and you want parts+labor+voicing for a grand! somethings wrong there. And I make my own everything (chassy, cab, etc...)"only" a grand on a piece of audio gear.
If I have a customer complaining about a 2k price on an amp, I stop returning their phone calls. dumble clones are worth 3500-5k - everyone knows that - and they pay it for high quality builds.
under a k - look to lower quality or some modern production amp. fender dluxe comes to mind.
it really is a journey, and you just cant farm out the battle wounds
Re: poweramp-driven "liquid" distortion.
The local guys do the same thing come to the guitar shop and play our amps which include: Splawn, Vintage Tone, Badcat, and Fowler. Love them and then go home and order a POS amp from Musician's Friend.
Later we get a call can you look at my amp. No I can't look at your POS amp are you serious send it back.

Re: poweramp-driven "liquid" distortion.
I don't think the OP learned anything here that couldn't be learned on gear sites like TGP or TDPRI.
By this I mean, he comes on a builder forum and wastes everybody's time asking what PCB amp to buy.
This ain't no "Technical Discussion" just a waste of bandwidth. Sorry.
Best thing the OP could do is build a 5E3 kit, learn some skills and have a whole lot of fun.

I don't want to blow my own horn, but please refer to the 8th post on page 1 of this thread.
Bam! Right on the head, but 7 pages later and it's still going.
Then after all the GOOD suggestions were ignored and discarded....wait for it...wait for it...the correct answer...what is a Princeton Recording Amp, Alex. Not one of you experts suggested that amp. You're all idiots. You should feel stupid and inadequate.
On the bright side, at least the OP actually went out and played through some amps. I honestly didn't think it was ever going to happen. My current understanding is that liquid distortion equates to sterility. I am thinking the quest will continue as it usually does.

I wanted liquid distortion too, so I went out and bought a case of Newcastle Brown Ale.
