Installing a G12H30 into a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue...
Hello there,
I'm going to install a G12H30 in to a friend's DRRI and am curious as to the best way to do so, being as the G12H30 has 4 mounting holes and the Fender cabinet has 8 mounting posts. What is the best way to remove the posts?
Thanks!

See if it has a detachable grille. If so, it's probably made with posts that screw in from the front. They're reverse threaded...so don't turn 'em CCW.

Just curious, but is a G12-30 a good choice for an open back cabinet?
Re: Installing a G12H30 into a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue...
Good ideas....I'll give that a check.
I REALLY like G12H30s in an open back cabinet when used with a Blackfacey Fendery amp....for what that's worth...

Problem solved...just broke the bolts off at the baffle, as they were cheap bolts and broke off fairly cleanly. Thanks!

I think a G12H30 type speaker sounds great in an open-back cab. Depends on the cabinet to some extent. I don't really dig Fender type cabinets (little or no back panel, shallow) but if you stick a bigger solid back panel on it then it can really sound good.

+1
I have heard and played an old Deluxe Reverb with a Celestion G12H30 and it sounded VERY GOOD. The owner did not want to gig it with the orig Jensen speaker.
Maybe you want to increase the treble cap of the vibrato channel from 250pf to 330pf. This works well with this speaker IMHO.
Another cool thing to increase clarity and open up the amp is to replace the 22n cap from V1b (vibrato channel) with an Orange Drop 715 22n.
Good luck

Break them off. Grab each one with a pair of pliers and wiggle it back and forth until the metal fails and it breaks off.dehughes wrote:Hello there,

I have a blackface Deluxe-Amp (non-reverb model) and an 18W, the 18 has a G12H30 in it. I have connected that speaker to the Fender before, and really liked the resulting sound, a whole lot. The G12H30 was still in the "Marshall" cabinet though. I suppose the Fender box would sound slightly different, but the amp and speaker do work very well together. You'll end up using a little more treble than you would with a typical Jensen-voiced Fender speaker. The G12 seems to have more clarity and inner detail than most American speakers, even though it has a warmer tonal balance.

Did it...and it worked fantastically. Thanks!Mr. dB wrote:Break them off. Grab each one with a pair of pliers and wiggle it back and forth until the metal fails and it breaks off.dehughes wrote:Hello there,

Also, I wonder if lots of 18w forum folks are going to be hanging out here now that that forum is down...

I have been cruising TGP too, but that is one WEIRD place. They have an extreme bend against builders unless you have a commercial amp business. Never mention "Cloning" an amp unless you want a tirade to ensue. Never knock other amps if you are a builder....but if you are a gear wanker, it's completely fair game.
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!

I agree that the TGP mods and admins seem to have cucumbers up their exits. They are nauseatingly uptight, and smug about it too. Especially SP. Thankfully some places still allow people to have independent opinions, and maybe have some fun too.dartanion wrote: I have been cruising TGP too, but that is one WEIRD place. But back on track, is there any amp that doesn't sound great through a G12H30? I am of the opinion that the regular Anniversary model is one of the all-time great rock guitar speakers.
Re: Installing a G12H30 into a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue...
Regarding the cab comments - I have hooked my blackface style clone up to the speaker in my big Marshall style 18 watt cab and it sounded amazing, I eventually bought a Sammi to replace the speaker in my 18, put the speaker that was in the 18 in my bf amp (basically a Princeton) and the result was really just so-so... also the so-so speaker in my Princeton sounded much better in another cab, Interesting what a difference a cab can make. I was excited about the Princeton because it came in such a compact cab - well, it's easy to fit in the car but I'll take a bigger box any day now. Guess that's a good property of the deluxe, that big wide baffle...
Re: Installing a G12H30 into a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue...
I've yet to hear back from the guy who owns the DRRI that I installed the G12H30 into...but I'm hoping that's because he's so very satisfied with the tone/vibe of the thing that he has forgotten to call me back...
