Best C12 Replacement

Post by ckpop »

Hello all, I was looking for opinions on the best C12N relacement. Here is my setup.....Fender Super that has uses 2 original C12N speaker (baffle has been changed). Now I use humbucker pickup and love the way it sounds just cranked up for recording.
Most sound clips of C12N clones players are playing strat's and blues but that is not the case here. I like that american Fender speaker distortion tone you can get with the C12N, Think of early Joe perry aerosmith for example would be on example. Any suggestions because the originals C12N's I have are Brittle around the outside of the cones and I am not blowing the speaker but tearing the cone from the frame because of the age of the cone.

Yes the recone idea was in the back of my mind but my question is how much different will the speaker sound after a recone beside the break in time ? Will the speaker sound like the orignal after a break in or is something different with the type paper or way the new recone kit is wont allow it to be "original" sounding ?

I have had good luck with getting vintage speakers reconed. Yours might sound a bit different whern done, but it might sound more like it did when new with new paper and spider.
