Of course by hand.

If this wasn't tough enough he finishes it all in Urushi.

Re: Wood Ninja
This is insane, absolutely incredible work.
Re: Wood Ninja
I'm putting all my woodworking tools outside to rust away. I have no need for them anymore
Re: Wood Ninja
That is very, very impressive workmanship.
It is so impressive, I will never attempt it. Ever. Like Dirty Harry said "A man's got to know his limitations."
So ...... what is a good dovetail jig to use with a router for building amp and speaker cabs?

Re: Wood Ninja
I use a rigid 18" dovetail jig for most of my cabs. Very easy to use and excellent results. For my box joint I made a jig for those
Re: Wood Ninja
I have a Leigh jig I bought used. Love it.
What i like about it is you cut the tails first, and then you can cut he pins, and cut them progressivly smaller and try them for size to sneak up on the fit. its easier to undertand in person.
My Wood Sensei though does not use a jig, and scoffs at them. He cuts them all freehand with a backsaw and chisel.

That is beautiful work! Obvious skills from another realm.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Man those joints are insane.
Many years ago when furniture was made by hand, dove tails and finger joints were the norm.
Now it's chip board garbage, staples and glue, not designed to last more than five years.

Re: Wood Ninja
I have the phenolic Keller dovetail jig. It comes with a couple of high quality bits, so remember it is priced accordingly. It is a jig that is virtually idiot proof, but it only cuts one size dovetail. The price seems to have doubled!!! http://www.amazon.com/Keller-Dovetail-S ... vetail+jigNickC wrote:So ...... what is a good dovetail jig to use with a router for building amp and speaker cabs?
Rockler seems to have a knock off of the Keller and much better pricing, but without the two router bits: http://www.rockler.com/miniature-doveta ... te-bit-kit though it's a "mini" dovetail...I suspect there are other knockoffs.
If I was in the market for something now, I'd get one that cuts both pieces of the joint at the same time, like this http://www.rockler.com/rockler-s-complete-dovetail-jig or maybe this http://www.rockler.com/4210-porter-cabl ... vetail-jig and that lets you do blind dovetails, too.
Even better, but not as simple, are ones that take multiple templates http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite ... vetail+jig but they start to get pricey, and I'm of the mind that there is more to go wrong.
Good luck with it. There is too much to choose from!
You can use one side of the jig to do box joints if you prefer.

Titebond "Original" as mentioned by cbass. The 2 and 3 don't dry as hard I'm told, and will creep.
I use granular hide glue a lot. There's bit of a steep learning curve (don't use the Franklin liquid stuff!!!), but for what I do, it's the sh#t.
