rectifier filament supply

Post by jestaudio »

The ez 80/81 appear to operate on a 6.3 volt ac supply, does the supply need to be 3.15-0-3.15 or could i get away with a 6.3-6.3 supply

6.3 is 6.3. You can't use 6.3-6.3 as that's 12.6. You don't need center tapped 3.15-0-3.15, you just need 3.15-3.15. You can, however get 6.3 from 6.3-0-6.3 by just using one outer leg and the 0 center tap.

Typically they'll be listed as 6.3-0; 3.15-3.15; or 3.15-0-3.15.

Must EZ-81 based amps I see (usually 18-watt derivatives) use a separate 6.3 supply for the rectifier, both because of it's high current draw and to isolate it from the other heaters.

Better on a separate winding, but I have experience that says it works OK on the same winding as the other tubes in my 18 Watt.
