Trouble-Free JTM45 Kit?

Post by The New Steve H »

A guy I know says he and his son want to build an amp. They're considering a JTM45. I just got done building a Mojo kit, and it wasn't too good. Can anyone recommend a better kit, hopefully without the huge Ceriatone shipping charge?

I think most folks order kits from Ceiratone without transformers and source them from the US.To save on shipping.

Shipping is probaly still pretty high

They're complaining about ordering from a non-American business. Does anyone sell an American-made chassis that's worth a crap?

Part it together.

Metro or Marstran chassis.

Metro, Marstran, Merren, or Classictone transformers.

Turret board wherever.

Panels wherever.

Valvestorm.com everything else.

Do Metro and/or Marstran make their chassis in the US?

If it was me, I'd be satisfied with US transformers and a US cab. Truthfully, I wouldn't even care about that. If Americans choose not to compete, screw them.

Triodestore has JTM45 for KT66 in steel now with faceplates.

The metro store has a nice USA made aluminum JTM45 with plates.

Haven't tried them myself, but Tubedepot sells PCB based kits with video and very detailed text instructions. Seems to be about as foolproof as you can get short of having someone else build it for you. looking more closely the JTM-45 kit is turret board based.

Actually that's a JTM50 kit, try to use that chassis (Mojo) with KT66's and one will be in the same situation as Steve H.

Whoa, guys, sorry if I offended anyone. My memory is not great. I don't always remember what I asked in the past.

I've worked on two Mojo JTM45s. I didn't choose Mojo either time. I was roped in AFTER the kits were bought. I never even saw the first kit. I just tried to help a disabled vet by answering email questions and sending him to this forum.

I didn't object to Ceriatone. I have no problem with buying non-American stuff. The friend who wants to build the amp objected to it. I told him that even if he bought an American chassis, he was not likely to get many American components.

Again, sorry. I am not deliberately wasting people's time.

Not to stir the pot too much but I've found the whole buy from America, which I support, to be frustrating in amp making.

A transformer, wire or chassis may be fabricated in the states but chances are the steel, copper and aluminum are from an overseas source. South Africa is the largest producer of aluminum. Almost impossible to beat China's steel pricing. Not trying to a start a right, wrong and why conversation, just observing economics in action.

When I placed my first big order with Mouser I was surprised to find that almost everything was foreign sourced.

It seems to me, that while our governments argue and posture supply and demand have already moved to a global mindset.

Besides .................... a JTM45 is a British amp!
