Lighling-Wreck a Idea for a project

Post by yalesmith »

My fifth build (rocket) is nothing short of horrible, i have been on these boards asking questions regarding lowering distortion and I then got a novel idea. What about a lightning-wreck? I considered building a matchless lightning next, why not scrap the crappy rocket build and try it. I already converted the preamp section but the power section is a little rough for me. First, I want the Lighting-wreck 30 watts (4 el84's) and I would like to keep the iron and choke I have
Edcor Irons (245 0 245 250 mA). as far as elecrolytics I have 22/47 and not the 22/32 ....any ideas, help, instructions or a simply it cant be done would be great.

Here is the link to the matchless schematic, BOM and layout:

Fix the Rocket first.

Otherwise a Gump-esque questing arises: Are you running FROM something or TO something?

There's a lot to be learned from fixing that Rocket to meet your desires - more than shotgunning another attempt at the unknown and HOPING that things just happen to fall in your favor.

You do realize that the Matchless Lightning has more distortion then a TW Rocket.

Yes, I do get that but there is a master volume on the Lightning. The master volume on the rocket did not work so well,

Thanks

Neither does that master volume in the Lightning.

Need to use type 2 PPIMV or Dana Hall's VVR.
