germ,
Hmmm, now that you mention it, they may actually be metal film. Here's the blurb from www.soniccraft.com:

This ½ watt film resistor is specifically designed for audio applications. The special construction features flat frequency response, low noise (thermal EMF), and non-magnetic leads/end caps. Every resistor is tested for noise during the QC process. The leads are Tin plated OFHC 22 AWG. Tolerance is better than 1%; TC is better than 50ppm/°C; Rated up to 500VDC; Dimensions 0.15"D x 0.40"L. The PRP ½ watt resistor is $0.45 each.

I've got a board all wired up with these PRP resistors, and after I finish the harp amp I'm making for a guy I'll put wire up that board. We'll see how it sounds. I build my amps pretty aggressive, so I like quiet components. I REALLY love the Kiwame CFs, but they're pretty expensive. Although, now that I think about it, they'd only add like $20 to a build....hmmm....choices...

I have a prospective client who's really hard over about having all CCs in the Marshall-style amp he wants. I reckon I'd do it, but I'd have to buy a bunch extra in case of the noisy ones. He's been speding a lot of time reatding on Metroamp forum, though he understands less electronics than Tickle Me Elmo does. A little bit of knowledge is dangerous......

although you see people building Marshall clones with carbon comps throughout the board, on actual old Marshalls the ones with most all carbon comp were quite few therefore history-making Marshalls heard on recordings were more likely not to be in such condition. Facts don't probably matter once you've got someone going on mojo though and I suppose why not if you can make money offering "upgrades".
