How to correctly pull the board on an old JMP for servicing?

Tittle says it all. Id really like to get over my fear of working on old PCBs and I figured Id start by cleaning up of some half assed connections on my JMPs board where components were clipped and the old legs were used for the new solder points as well as replace some piggy backed resistors with the one of the correct value. Whats the easiest way of of doing this with the least amount of desoldering? Anything else you think I should know about taking this plunge is more than welcomed. Thanks guys

Show photos and it will be far more obvious. But usually you release all the pots and jacks from the faceplate, unscrew the board from the cassis, and lift up, using the wires connected to the tube sockets as the hinge.

take pictures or draw a picture as well as label any wires you have to remove so you can put it back together later.

unscrew the nuts on the pots and input jacks, unscrew the bolts that hold the PCB. it'll flip up toward the back to give access to the solder joints.
