Why not just disconnect the unused cathode, and leave the unused triode completely isolated (as is normal practice in all classic amps with this situation)?

Eh, I'm all paranoid now about cathode poisoning....AND, I've started to think that there may be some benefit that I've not considered to running the 1st 12AX7 JUST like the old AC30s (r.e., both triodes connected to a shared 1k5 Rk and each having a 220k on the anodes).
