REALLY need help with electron flow....

Post by C Moore »

In the schem I can see the PT is tapped for the half wave, rectifier diode. I imagine when that instantaneous voltage is Negative, the diode is forward biased, and that would allow a Negative half of the Sine to pass. Is that correct.?
But then I see the Elytics, and they are Negative grounded. That raises a few questions with me.
If the rectifier is passing a Negative sign, how can the Elytics have a negative ground.?
When the caps discharge, what is the polarity of the voltage.?
Thank You
i know this is a lot to ask. sorry i cannot draw some kind of pictorial. i do not have the computer skills to be able to draw what I am really asking.

I hope the actual amp doesn't match the schematic. Bias caps are drawn backwards.

When you say "bias caps" are you talking about C21-22-23 and 24.?

So ..... maybe I am not as confused as I thought I was.?
Those caps should have a Positive ground.?
Thanks

Yes. If the rectifier is reverse-biased it will produce negative voltage peaks, and e-caps need to be positive to ground. If they are negative to ground they will cook real fast.
