looking to revalve my trusty Mesa DC5 and would like some ideas for a set of tubes with a bit more gain, curently running 2x 6l6 winged c's eec82 mulards in the reverd and PI and sovteks in the preamp

your power section and PI should be great as is (brand)

the sovteks are wonderful OEM workhorse tubes and a great tube for the $ but not exactly what I would call rich in tone or dimension. Try experimenting with different preamp tubes before you change the others. If you want new production. Tung sol and JJ/Telsa are a better sound stage / bang for the buck. if you have deeper pockets. Look into Ei / Amprex Bugleboy / Mullard / RCA / GE / etc.......

Tubesandmore.com sells a New Production preamp tube assortment set for testing and voicing amps. this might help you find the tone you are after.

Another option is Eurotubes they deal in mostly JJ/Tesla. you can call and discuss the type of amp you are operating and the sound you want to achive and for a very small handling fee ( a few dollars a tube ) they will hand sellect and label the tubes so it's plug, bias and play. I'm have many happy clients from using this service.
