I guess pretty much so. At least that's what it was modeled after.

Is the Hot Cat 30 and the Stray Kat 30 the same?
Mark...I believe the Hot Cat was the inspiration behind the Stray Cat
not sure how close it is but it's pretty much follows the schem that was floating around
Maybe someone could save (host) this image for posterity...
Nik still has it up on his site and this is what I used for my layout.
Hey Darin,
Maybe when you have a moment and after you have played this amp for a while, could you give a tone report or review of this amp?

It looks like a pretty cool amp, and looks like it would be a great rock and roll amp, with the added versatility of the master volume.

For example, does it seem like a bright amplifier?

What speakers are you using with it?
Tom
the little time I've spent
MV works nicely...it is a bright amp but can be tamed pretty good with the edge and brilliance controls..also adding the switch with caps added some more versatility...more mids to the gain channel.
clean channel kinda reminds me of the rocket
I have only used a Tone Tubby Alnico so far will be trying a EV 12L and
a G12-65 and other guitars and report back
Can anyone explain what's going on at the input?
rp...I used the 5.1m at V1 and the 1M at the input like Nik's layout.
A while back I did a 6v6 Plexi style build that had a similar input
network only a 1M instead of 5M it was Nik's Chubracabra style of
high gain Marshall

I am impressed so far
cleans are nice...gain is very adjustable
It does run hot and loud...maybe a 6V6,EL84 version is possible
it would be great to have you guys take a serious look at this design.
With channel switching and a buffered loop
it could be a "go to" contender for a lot of people.

Hmm.....now I wonder if I could repurpose my West Labs DC30 iron for this......the B+ would be a bit lower (easily remedied by going to a SS rectifier), but the 4K primary on the OT would be OK for a pair of EL34 - only concern would be the wattage, since according to the Duncan tube sheet, a pair of EL34 with a 4K OT and 400+ volts on them would put out almost 45 watts.....

Decisions, decisions, decisions....

Email West or TDS maybe it's conservatively rated. I'm curious too about their 30W OT as I like their stuff.

In reality, at 400 V plate and a 4k OT, you will get around 40 watts or less.

Now the real question is, what is the VA or power rating of the power transformer HT and OT rating? IF the power transformer HT can not supply more current / power than the OT is rated, then worrying about the tubes potential is moot, as they can not "create" more power than given.....

After a few more small changes...replaced tone stack Sozo's with OD's on gain channel and using a Russian PIO on the clean side...also using a NOS 5751 in V2
using the EV12L cleans stay shimmery with nice bottom.gain has more top end than the Tone Tubby but in a cool edgy way...
Strat, LP, SG all sound good in the usual way... as in no massive dialing of
amp controls or guitar controls to get good sounds...
I built a simple A B switch box with led's and it really helps the versatility factor...nice to have the sweet cleans and bluesy to rock gains easily managed...looking at adding a simple FX loop like the DC30 style...unfortunately I might be getting used to the delay/reverb+ buffered loop of the D style designs, for I find this amp a little lacking
in the warm and spacious dept. which I'm sure decent FX would cure
As far as cost and components
I'm not sure it's as involved as the D style builds, and it may be little more
time consuming than the TW builds.

All in all this is a great design and would recommend it
to anyone looking for that little bit different tone and feel

Thanks Martin,Colossal
cab has some finish issues up close, but it's good enough for Rock'n Roll
I had forgotten how much fun it is to play...
