Power amps

Post by jeremyb »

Hi all, I've got a modeling effects unit (POD HD500) and was wondering about building an EL34 power amp for it, thinking 2x 50W so I could run it in stereo or bridge for 100W, anyone seen any similar projects or thoughts on how I could go about doing this?

There are schematics around the web for making stereo power. Do you have to build it? You can buy a used Marshall for less money than the transformers, and tubes.

It's just a power section from the PI back, x2.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Here in New Zealand the price of tube power amps is pretty crazy, building will be substantially cheaper :)

I'd do a search of the database on Torres before you spend $4.95.

Torres tends to rework other peoples stuff in a super-cool-absolutelty-the-best-no-where-else-on-the-planet way, which does not always sit well with the reader.

Torres schematics leave more to imagination then reference.

Dan has a weird way of doing his schematics too, all cramped together. Also, he leaves off the PT/OT information and when asked he replies no tech support can be given.

Waste of $4.95

Post the schematic and see what I mean.

Ahh of course.

I don't have any great ideas, but I know schematics of the Marshall stereo amps are out on the web. You just take 2 separately fused 50s or 100s from the PI back, or build a pair of heads with typical series loops.

I would have to look.. I don't think it'd really be cheaper, would it?

use two 50w opt and a 100w pt, shared power supply
but it keeps thing simple, is it just for guitar or are you looking for some fidelity too?
