What do you mean by this?
I'm not disagreeing, just wondering where this is coming from...
I have two of these in head form; VERY clean amps.
Are you making a suggestion of a good way to get their tones; their cleans, and then add dirt pedals?
It was the amp used to record this song and one of the main stage amps used until the pay checks started coming in.
Everything Radiohead is a ton of pedals and studio tricks.
Interesting. I did not know this.

Well, I knew the pedals and studio tricks are big for them, but didn't know they originally used Traynors.
The YGL-3 amps are very much a take on Twin Reverbs, and it's interesting hearing once in a while about Eric Johnson and others who have used them. I had one before I even picked up guitar because of a friend who told me it was a bass amp left it at my house when I was younger so I could learn bass.
It eventually needed a cap job and he abandoned it.
Years later I got it repaired (and the tech told me what it was) and had an amp when I picked up electric guitar. I totally under-appreciated it because it was way too clean and I wanted a JCM800.
I like them now though for what they are.

Anyways, sorry about the interruption and distraction.

The Helen Keller cap makes your front pickup sound deaf, and Teles are cranky like Les Pauls, not as thin and delicate as a Strat.

I use early flat poles. Gnarr gnarrr. I don't play country, These last 2 statements are for reference. The Les Paul comparison was for reference too. Comparative.. that's all.

I'm not sure I agree with the Telecaster basically being a les paul. Unless you are refering to the Fender, mid '70's Custom which has a bridge humbucker, Thineline with two humbuckers more of an ES335 or the Deluxe which had 2 humbuckers a strat neck and vibrato tail piece. The standard Telecaster in any stock pickup configuration is a far cry from a Gibson les paul. Unless maybe a Les Paul Jr. with a single 90?

No. I can be quite so pedantic. He's using a Jazzmaster. I was comparing on a scale of mild to wild(er).

Fender humbuckers? Not in my lifetime! ;)

Some very interesting replies!

Vibroverb, you say?

i think i like overdrive in a preamp section, so i don't have to kill the outputs.
Master volume being the keyword there, i suppose.

i really need to bone up on theory. i can certainly clone bits of amps, but designing exactly what i want... there's another story.

With this guitar (which i love) i don't think i've ever found the bridge position to be great with overdrive. i'm also wondering about moving the actual pickup a wee bit further towards the neck. Might add a bit of body i suppose.

Did sound for a friends album launch last week. He had Eric McCusker doing a guest spot (Mondo Rock)
He had a actual blackface deluxe reverb 1x12, sounded incredible with his actual 60's strat ( old fart)
And he was using a Hotcake as well. I have one and friggin hate it!
But was nice with that amp and guitar fo sho!
I think its good combo with a 2 x 6V6 PP amp that has a LTP inverter and a limited number of stages in front. You have to set the hotcake's drive and level controls so that it starts to sustain the signal without getting the cruddy shite. If you just dime the hotcake it will sound terrible. You also should have the hotcake's mids up more to get a really good result. JM2CW

Well, i moved the Seymour split-humbucker bridge pickup in my Jazzmaster 15mm north - what a difference!

It has a wee bit more body and a little less sizzle. Coupled with the neck pickup, it reminds me of a strat sound.

And when that's overdriven, it's not as wooly - i'm guessing some of that famous strat-phasing is helping me out there?

Really pleased and astonished. the overdrive in my 5W Champ-ish amp (with second 12AX7 triode hit hard) sounds so much more full and pleasant.

Score!

That worked out! It's amazing how the voice changes if you put another throat in there.

;)

I love Duncans, btw. Good deal.
