Ebay Amp Chassis

Anybody bought chassis from this ebay seller? A friend of mine got one of the Princeton chassis kits recently. He said it arrived in 5 days from Thailand and the quality was very nice although it does come with the fiberboard circuit board.

Yes, I built a Princeton Reverb clone on one of those chassis. Honestly, I am very happy with it, although I had some trouble soldering to it, and had to bolt all my grounds. My question is, how are they allowed to offer these on eBay without getting the auctions kicked-off for trademark violations?

I got one of these chassis second hand from a forum member. It's surprisingly well built, but I agree with curb dog...the chassis is galvanized or something and looks like it would be difficult to solder to. Everything will need to be scruffed and bolted with good star washers.

Honestly I can't tell. It feels like steel, but with whatever plating it's got on it, I don't know. seems sturdy though.

If I was in the market for a D style chassis I would definitely consider buying from cepedals, I didn't know they were on this forum. I have their D style pedal the FET Dream which is really nice but I might be selling it if anyone is interested, just not using it much these days.

Not that these chassis's are made of the same material as old Fender chassis but I've heard somewhere that Fender chassis's are notoriously hard to solder to and you need to use a really hot iron.

I also wondered about the copyright issues especially that logo and faceplate.

The old Fender chassis were steel.

The Dumble replica chassis are aluminum.

Fender used to solder can caps and grounds to the chassis.

You are right you need at least around 80 watts to solder to those chassis.

Me too. That logo alone is enough to get him covered in Fender lawyers for a looooong time. The face & backplates too. The backplate even has "Made in USA" on it.

Ebay probably hasn't noticed it, with three gazillion posts a month or whatever they handle.

I think when he first started offering the Dumble chassis he even had one of the words misspelled on the front panel.

Yeah, makes you wonder about Ebay.

I know somebody had a partscaster listed and described it as Strat style guitar.
Ebay cancelled the auction and sent him an email saying that no brand names or trademark can be used to describe the guitar.

Can't even use S style or T style.
Can't show the headstock if it is a Fender style, even if it is a licensed part.

Ridiculous.

Then you have a guy in Thailand that sells exact clones of Fender products with the name and everything.

A couple of yrs ago i got an empty (no amp chassis) '67 BF Vibrolux Reverb cab--- after giving up looking for a chassis to go with the cab i ordered the chassis/faceplates/boards kit from this vendor.
No complaints with the build--- other parts sourced from Hoffman, CE, Mouser, Mojo etc-------but i do have to tell some people that it's "not a real Fender" amp in a "real Fender" cab. Orig speakers were hosed so i'm running RI Jensens.
I'm not sure about the legal standing of the exact repro faceplates but they sure look great.
BTW-- the chassis is steel and i bolted grounds to chassis w/star washers.
