Proper epoxy for Formica

Post by angelodp »

I have a bunch of 1/16" formica. In order to get to 1/8" thickness for boards I will laminate the pieces. Anyone have info on epoxy types to use here that will have a good bond strength and high thermal rating.

Ange, the glue I use for tolex is actually made for gluing laminate. Wilsonart H20, it is a water based contact cement. They have it at home depot under the sheets of Formica, I think you can buy a quart. Roll or brush it on both surfaces, let them dry completely, stick them together. You only get one shot though.

Ange, you could just use them as-is if you make the boards sandwich style with eyelets like some D cloners do.

Ryan, are you saying, no glue, just use the eyelets to keep it all together.

No. I tried to find a picture to go with that post but didn't. What I meant is like a top board with the eyelets and a backer board behind it with the wires coming out from between the 2, like you can see in the pics of #124 come to think of it :

ange go with the H2O. its the best. i first didn't really understand your post, but even re reading it, i still maintain that the H2O will be perfect. Its expensive too, but you can try some tolexing with it when your done building boards. or put a kicthen together.
