New cabinet

Post by alanp »

Not a Trainwreck or a Dumble, but I thought you guys might like this one. I built a JCM800 clone awhile ago with Mojotone parts supplied by Custom Audio Boutique (a NZ company), and just today received the cabinet for it, crafted by Ash Customworks (a NZ luthier who does really good work.)

It's made out of rimu (a NZ native timber), and all of the work was done by Ash (I have ten thumbs when it comes to woodwork.) I soldered up the amp myself -- not the tidiest of jobs, but it works good.

Nice cab! What model jcm is it? I want to do a jmp clone, like a 2204, whats your jcm? I think some of the earlier models were pretty much the 2204

Nice amp. Hows it sound? I like the JCM 800 sound a lot. :D

Nice amp and cabinet.

I got the Triode amp kit (JCM800 2204) for less than $300 on special and love that amp.

I built it off the '88 schematic from Marshall. The board uses the Dreamtone layout (which seems fairly logically laid out.)

Sounds great! It does a great clean, different to my 5E3, but still good-sounding. The master works like I hoped it would, I can get good-ish crunch at low-ish volumes. It still sounds best wound right up with the KT77's working hard! Apart from no bright cap, it's a stock copy of a '88 JCM800.

Fixed a few boo-boo's since the photos (put the NFB on the 8ohm output tap where it belongs, and fixed the wiring to the mains switch so it doesn't stay on all the time.) Nothing major :)

Thought the ground buss Ceriatone use looked like a good idea, so I used it. Very convenient for soldering grounds to.

That cab is very nice, agree! Good work on the guts too.

Couldn't bring yourself to drill handle holes, eh? I might router some slots in the side on mine like a cardboard PC box, with a vent in the top. That might look nice. Anyone ever do that?
