Re: Stang Ray question
Looks good.
Do you like the sound of that conjuntive filter your using?
Did you use that to get the gain?

Re: Stang Ray question
Mark, There wasn't a whole lot of intelligence on my part behind the design of this amp. I built an AC15 last fall and wanted to turn it into something else. With the schematic you provided, I was able to compare the AC15 with the Stangray. They were almost identical, up to the rectifier and filtering. I just made the changes in the preamp section to match the Stangray, left everything else the same, and flipped the switch. Didn't check voltages or anything as all of that was left over from the previous amp and was fine. I do like the tone, but it was not by my design. I don't have anything to compare it to. I imagine it does NOT sound as good as a real Stangray with more filtering and 4 power tubes and a beefier rectifier.
Re: Stang Ray question
Still you have a good amp and can be used even for gigging.
Very little difference in all these Vox type of circuits, just change out the preamp section and your done.
I was thinking of building a Stangray and Rx together dual channel but never got around to it yet.

Re: Stang Ray question
Yup, it will be a good amp for gigging.

I'm currently building a Stangray and maz GT together.M Fowler wrote:Still you have a good amp and can be used even for gigging.![]()

Re: Stang Ray question
That's a good idea. The Maz has just too much gain for me to use as a single channel (I'm not a volume control kinda guy). Please post results!
Re: Stang Ray question
I have always liked the Stangray and MazGT. The MazGT sounds pretty killer with an analog delay: All warm and fuzzy with a ton of gain!daz wrote:I'm currently building a Stangray and maz GT together.

Will do! I'm documenting my build over here:Gaz wrote:That's a good idea. The Maz has just too much gain for me to use as a single channel (I'm not a volume control kinda guy). Please post results!

Coincidently I recently read Doc Z had built a Stangray /GT prototype with channel switching that apparently sounded pretty great. The circuit in essence is based around the vox ac15 /ac30.
I'm thinking of adding Dana's VVR to further control volume levels.
Re: Stang Ray question
Cool. Did you draw up a schematic? I can imagine how you're doing it, but it'd be interesting to see just how you're doing the switching.
Re: Stang Ray question
Not at the moment. I have a stangray and gt schematic. Really straightforward- I just added a gt pre to the stangray and tied it to the other side of the PI.Gaz wrote:Cool. No channel switching for the moment - just an input jack for each preamp.
Re: Stang Ray question
Not much difference in the various amps out there, slight variations.
If you have one schematic figuring out the other amp isn't hard. Stangray, AC30, Rocket, Maz, RX, Wreck etc.
