How To Build A Round Amp

Post by rp »

Saw this on eBay thought I'd post for the pure weirdness of it. I also like clever things and this is a clever layout. Maybe a TAGer will feel inspired to build an amp into one of those blue Danish Christmas Cookie tins.

It's not worth what they're asking but I'd love those coke bottle 6V6's!

I've got coke bottles lined up for my 5C1 :) I just need the sockets, I check UPS tracking twice a day!

Thanks, I love to see things like that! Love the layout.

It reminds me of a round 2 x 10" combo amp - maybe someone knows of the Toby amp from Texas?

All I know is that it was used by Jazz guitarist Gabor Szabo around the mid sixties. It was supposed to send the sound in more directions, which interested me because Szabo used a lot of controlled feedback in those days. Jimmy Stewart said it looked like a trash can. I would love to rummage around inside it.

Best, tony

WOW....talk about a confined space for everything. That's pretty cool.

^^ Never seen that one before. Here's another take on integrating a stool and an amp, this time by Guild/Randall:

Here's couple of other round oddities:
Teisco "Coffee table", the speaker is pointing upwards and that cone supposedly disperses the sound all around.

Acoustic Control "Tuned Tube", two speakers at both ends of the cylidrical cabinet, the hinges are again usecto control dispersion characteristics.

I think that ruler is also just as weird and whacky! The Granite Savings Bank of Monrovia! Where the hell is that?

Years ago I had a Zenith stereo with speakers that had those inverted cones for sound dispersal.
They sounded quite good at the time.

Making a round one is on my list. I remember 'Silk Road' doing these.

I'll keep my eye out for a cheap bass drum.

Not going there!!

I would think that poor tube would suffocate under that asbestos insulation and the perforated cover on top of it too. Shortened life for sure.
