I don't wanna hurt Dr. Z's business, I'm just curious for comparison sake. Feel free to message me privately if you know but don't want to admit it.
thanks,

anyone know the KT45 output primary impedance?

If you don't want to hurt Mr. Z's feelings then buy one of his amps and measure the impedances yourself!

No I don't have that kind of info on the KT45. It uses a pair of EL34s and GZ34 rectifier 4, 8 , 16 ohm secondary.
It runs the Cin-Tran 3232 which looks a lot like the the HTS-9336-S used on the EZG-50 which uses a pair of 6L6 and GZ34 rectifier with 4, 8, 16 ohm secondary.
Dr Z is a great guy and probably would answer your question if you sent a PM to him!

...but I don't know of any places in the Philadelphia area that are open this late and stock Z amps! You're right though. That would be the best way.Cliff Schecht wrote:If you don't want to hurt Mr. Z's feelings then buy one of his amps and measure the impedances yourself!
Most people are here to learn and that's what I'm trying to do. I'm not a pro player and I'm a student with my first child on the way so I'm pretty sure my wife would kill me if I bought an amp to measure a part. It would be nice to have that amp though.
Thanks for the tip on the EZG transformer. Do you have any reason to believe they're the same other than appearances?

KT45's have been out of production a long time and could be found on for sale pages.
There are differences between the EL34 and 6L6 tubes of course but not that much.

Re: anyone know the KT45 output primary impedance?
It's the old debate. Sure, it'll make sound and probably not blow up anywhere from 3k to 7k (given big enough screen resistors) but I'm wondering if transformer impedance is part of what makes one of these things special.
Maybe I need a special output transformer wound by experienced hands on ancient equipment to capture "the sound." Of course, that assumes you can find the right person to make it.
I wonder if I could even tell the difference?
Probably not, I guess.

Just like the Komet amps the K50 used 4k8 and K60 used 5K8.
Magnetic Components is running 3K6 for JCM 800 50w amp running EL34's
I would just pick one and see how you like it or call Heyboer or Mercury Magnetic and see what they suggest or they may even know what the primary is.

Hi Mark (and Jamie). KT is still going, just a slow mover. Pearler of an amp. 6545 is the out of production KT45 cousin.M Fowler wrote:KT45's have been out of production a long time and could be found on for sale pages.

I'll have a look at the OT. Cintran 3232 is correct, but I don't have any specs.
I'll probably play around with a 6v6 version of this type of amp at some stage (z28 is almost 'small component' identical to the KT45) , as it is a fairly simple amp parts wise that sounds fantastic and is a great amp for changing out parts and experimenting. Playing around with different pentodes would be interesting. I've seen a schematic, but it would be much more fun to work it out (and make the mistakes) and tune it for me.
I really like the tone controls on these amps.

I love my 7591 ultralinear version!! It's been my main amp for years.
