Low Capacitance Cable please

Post by skyboltone »

Greetings:
I bought some RG-174 to use where needed in my HRM build (in progress). It measures 30pf per foot!!! I think that's way too high. I have some RG-59 around somewhere I'll measure today but if it's too high what in the heck are you guys using? Is my cap meter gunny sack? Is 30pf per foot acceptable?

Pity the fool who builds amps on top of a toolbox in his engine room.....

Help.

Thanks
Dan

I've converted to Canare GS-4. It's neophrene, and meant for external lines, so you have to think about heat.

I have been using this stuff with success, don't know the PF per foot but the seller might.

That's 47pf per foot. Maybe 30 is OK

I stock alot of shielded cable...

RG 174
Carare GS 6 I just looked up (47 Pf) Larger version of the GS 4
1 conductor Shielded teflon in 24,22, 20, and 16 Awg PTFE (Teflon)
No idea the Pf rating on the teflon but have been selling quite a bit.

After some research I've found that the only cable out there with less than 30pf per foot is the Klotz stuff that Weber sells. It's 27pf signal to shield I think.

Anyway, RG 174 is just fine as far as I can tell at 30pf +/-

YMMV
