Hello all,
Are ghost notes normal for the 18 watt circuit?I have tried to find out. Some say the 60's Marshall circuits have this issue.I have a 18 watt now from a small builder that has ghosting issues. The builders rep is stellar. He is sending me a set of different speakers(made for him) to try out.I understand that speakers with cone cry issues being changed but,I thought ghost notes are a circuit issue not a speaker issue.Any info would be great.I'm not a tech so I'm asking the experts.

Re: Ghost notes with 18 watt Marshall circuit clone.HELP
I have read of two different sources for Ghost Notes. One is bad filter caps (or bad solder joints at the filter caps). The other is speaker resonance (which seems to be related to whether or not the cone is doped).
With regard to the filter caps, it doesn't have to be that they have gone bad, which would not likely be the case with a recently built 18 Watt clone. it could also be that the quality of the caps used is inferior. Do you know what brnd and type of filter caps your amp has?

Play through a different speaker to rule out cone cry.
If it still happens, it's most likely filter cap related. Add another 22uf of filtering and see if that helps. If it doesn't, reduce the filtering by 22uf and test. If that still doesn't work, you've likely got a bad cap or two.
Good luck!
