Any way to make a capacitor coupled reverb sound good ?

I have a Traynor guitar Mate 4 with a nasty stock reverb. Is there any way to make this sound better without converting to a transformer coupled design ?

And if converting to transformer coupled will I have to get a different tank ?

What would be the DCR of an appropriate tank for a Fender style reverb trans ?

What is the offending characteristic of the reverb sound? Has it ever sounded good? Maybe a bad tube or a failed component in the circuit?

One of the best reverbs that I have ever heard is in an Ampeg V4 which is capacitor coupled as well. You could check out that schematic for similarities and differences with yours. I know that it uses a 6CG7 triode driver as opposed to the typical 12AX7.

The "standard" Fender circuit uses a 8 ohm output transformer and a tank with an 8 ohm input/2250 ohm output rating. Those are AC impedance values which are quite different than DCR values.

Not sure if your tank can be used in a tranny coupled circuit. Consider Googling the P/N for it's ratings. You might be able to find a transformer that would make it work in your existing circuit.

Use a 12au7 SRPP instead of the paralleled 12ax7.

If a pan is driven direct from the tube, it has to have the right input impedance for impedance matching to work. See here:
