I needed to stock up on parts so I ordered a bunch or resistors and various other things from Mouser.
A while back I read (can't remember where) that the Roederstein polyester caps sound very nice in guitar amps.
It's another one of those Vishay sub companies. I will use three .1uF 630v on my D'lite on the power tube couplers as well as the V3b input.
These caps have a line on one end, I wonder if that possibly designates the foil side?
These caps are smaller than I thought they would be.
Anybody ever use these caps in an amp?

Re: Anybody Try These?
They look about half the size of Mallory M-150s, and a bit smaller than Solens. New to me, I hope they do sound good.
That line sure should be the outside foil indicator, but who knows these days? I'd check it on the 'scope.

According to some it's supposed to designate the outer foil, but I guess that the markings are more or less random. These caps have a line on one end, I wonder if that possibly designates the foil side?
Yep. Excellent caps.Anybody ever use these caps in an amp?

I've heard soem people say "Its not the size that matters - its how ya use it", but personally I wouldn't know about that.Structo wrote:These caps are smaller than I thought they would be.

I'd like to give those a try - why not?
About physical size of caps: I remember Kevin O'Connor writing something like, 'If you want to make smaller parts sound like bigger ones, just make a more spacious layout.' I think he was suggesting that more spacing between certain components can reduce crosstalk, and subsequent 'phasey-ness'.

Re: Anybody Try These?
The selection seems rather limited (from Mouser anyway). .022uF is only available in 250V rating, and the .1uF shown above appears to be the only 630V rated value.
Re: Anybody Try These?
If so happens you didn't know- Roederstein capacitors have been around for 50 years or more. Highly reputable and very good quality, - and more important - a very large range of different cap types.
The 1813 designation is the original Roederstein series number..
I've used Roederstein on and off for many years.
If there's any guitar mojo in'em , I'm not the one to tell....

Re: Anybody Try These?
I installed the three .1uF caps on the PI yesterday and used the little rectangular .02uF 1822 on the PI input.
Those caps have very short leads so I had to add some length.
I haven't really been able to crank it up but it seems just a bit smoother with less brittle highs, but still retains the ODS tone.
