6G16 Reverb vs. AB763
Anybody have experience or opinions on the different reverb mixers - 6G16 vs. AB763? It looks like the reverb circuit is mostly the same. The only difference seems to be the .02uF/470k versus the 3M3/10pF mixer and the AB763 has the additional 220k to ground.
I'm considering a Fender-type build and I've never played a 6G16.

They both are nice reverbs when done right. Not sure either one is superior.
I built up a basket case deluxe reverb amp with a Ab763/6G6 hybrid circuit and put a 2x10 baffle board in the Deluxe reverb chassis.
It's got 022798 power and a huge output tranny and I called it a Super Vibrolux.
The trem is power tube bias wiggling type, not opto. The trem sounds awesome and way nicer than opto isolator trem.
I added a dwell control to the verb and used a 3 spring 9Ab3C1B tank.
If you like thick verb, you may want to look at this project and check out several of the recordings I did with this amp.
The pics of this project are here.
Look towards the bottom of the page for the AB763 project

Go here to hear the verb and trem in action
Go 3/4 way down the page to the Ab763 clips section,
Just past the Re-vibe clips.
Check out the Chris Isaak/Wicked game clip for a great verb sound.
Me likes Bumblebee twist too.

Welcome Doug.
Nice looking and sounding amp.
One of these days I will build another blackface.
Very nice execution of the best ingredients.

Uh oh, it's not THE Doug Hoffman, is it? Damn, no more cross-posting on my two fave forums!!
Hey Doug, instead of fooling around here, ya think you could just pack and ship my order? No spitting in the turrets, please.
Y'all don't know what fast shipping and customer service is 'til you've dealt with Hoffman!
Sorry for the hijack.

Haaa,
Already packed all the orders and now it's beer thirty.
Fat Tire amber ale is sliding on down right now.
I guess there are several guys here that post on my forum also.
Someone sent me a link to their firefly project here and told me to have a look at the pictures.

That's how I got here.

Hmm...maybe you counting turrets while boozin' could work in my favor. Regardless, don't forget to subtract the weight of the bag.
Welcome!

Re: 6G16 Reverb vs. AB763
Me uses digital counting scale.
Put cup on scale
Hit Tare to zero out scale
Push button #3 for lugs
Dump turrets in cup
Stop when scale says quantity desired
If I had to count those by hand I would stop selling them.
I get orders for several thousand at a time.
Imagine counting that by hand.

Re: 6G16 Reverb vs. AB763
Yeah, I assumed you were simply weighing them. Rest assured, most are too lazy to count them upon receipt, anyway. I know I am!
Re: 6G16 Reverb vs. AB763
Doug I don't suppose you would happen to have a AA763 Tremolux chassis sitting in that Fender parts pile deal you got?
I used to work at AC/DC Electronics in Oceanside, CA and man I wish I had all the components we used to weight for the assembly line including all those transformers made in house.

No, that pile of junk Fender amps was gone 12 years ago.

Re: 6G16 Reverb vs. AB763
Doug, welcome and thanks for responding to my post. I want to try verb in my next amp build. It seems the AB763 verb circuit is fairly ubiquitous. I just wanted to explore some alternatives.
I didn't know you were into surf. Have you checked out the Surf Guitar forum? There's some interesting stuff over there.
Nice! Bumblebee Twist was excellent! Wicked Game, too. Chris Isaak does get some tasty clean tones. I'm a big Brian Setzer fan. You'll have to try Malaguena. That's on his 'Ignition' CD.EL34 wrote:Check out the Chris Isaak/Wicked game clip for a great verb sound. Me likes Bumblebee twist too.

I'm honored. Every one of my amps has some of your parts in it - turrets, etc.EL34 wrote:First post

Thanks, that rippin fun to play.Nice! Bumblebee Twist was excellent
At one time many years ago, that's about all I played.I didn't know you were into surf.
Sadly, I am out of practice on that style of music now.
Some of it I can still play.
I kind of moved in a different musical direction a few years ago after getting my Ibanez JS1200Ca.
Excellent, thanks for the business.Every one of my amps has some of your parts in it - turrets, etc
