Brownface 6G16 Tremolo issue

Post by ckpop »

Looking for some ideas for the best way to solve a problem with a custom built Brownface 6G16 vibroverb. The problem is I had a PT wound for a voltage of 414 volts loaded instead of 440V. This is messing with the balance of the tremolo and the voltage swing on the output Negitive swing that it sounds like it is peaking and causing a chirping.
My understanding there early tremolo are finicky with voltages and how they work together with the negitive bias and output tubes.

So this is what has to be corrected and need some input. Voltage 414v on the output tubes and V5 Tremolo tube, This brings my bias up to around 50 to 52 ma. I need to adjust the tremolo circuit to attenuate the swing or peak that is causing the chirping. This is not a lead dress problem but adjusting for different voltage operating points.

Thanks

I'm using the same basic trem setup on a homebrew but with lower voltages and cathode biased outputs. I tweaked the trem circuit to increase it’s strength but would not have known how to approach it w/o seeing what was going on via my scope. I changed the cathode resistor on the 2nd stage trem to 220k to help stop the clipping on the bottom of the trem wave. This brought the idle of that triode up to 0.8ma.

Do you have a scope? What is the non-trem idle DC voltage on the grids of the power tubes? Did you install adjustable bias? Is the trem pushing the tubes’ idle into cutoff or saturation or both or neither?
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
