JJ Tubes for Princeton Reverb

Post by RightLurker »

I'm about to service a '67 Fender BF Princeton Reverb. I'll be using JJ tubes. JJ makes (1) regular tubes, (2) tubes with gold pins, and (3) tubes with gold pins and spiral filaments. Has anyone had any experience with these different "grades" of JJ tubes, and, in your opinion, does any improvement in tone/durability justify the increased cost?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't had great success with JJ ECC83 tubes. Some die fast, some are noisy and others are perfect.

My Princeton clone currently has some JJ tubes in it and it sounds great. I do like the gold pin tubes but I haven't noticed that the spiral are any better, or quieter than the standard filament.

I've had great luck with jj's in the princeton circuit. I used jj pres and new tung sol power tubes.

If have any doubt buy your jj's from euro tube they based in Oregon and very helpful and knowledgable they will gladly help pic tubes that voice your amp or make recommendations.

They have done me proud!

I love the JJ6V6Ss for their bandwidth and robustness. I have used them in a number of amps without any issues, and they would be ideal in a BFPR or a BFDR.

No problems with JJ tubes for either Fender or other types.
