What is a preferred material to build them on?
Re: Dimenson Dumble masterboard, eyelet board size
I use FRP board. Some have claimed wood-grained formica sounds better though!garysanders wrote:What is a preferred material to build them on?

I just ordered a couple sets of blank boards from Ken Watts. 1/8" thick Garolite, black. I use his mounting sets too because he uses black screws which match the board.

McMaster-Carr is a good place to get G10 Garolite for boards.
Nice in that they have it in pre-cut widths, for example 2.5" or 3"
G-10/FR4 Garolite Sheets: http://www.mcmaster.com/#grade-g-10-gar ... ts/=40wbku Many colors available, also.
GPO3 red Fiberglass Sheets: Looks like those nice red Marshall boards. http://www.mcmaster.com/#electrical-gra ... 3)/=40wdqc

Mcmaster-Carr wouldn't ship to Canada, " due to the ever changing import export regulations". I think they just didn't want to send me $40 worth of garolite. They did tell me that they supplied a few long standing Canadian customers with garolite, but wouldn't say who they were so I could buy from them. Very odd considering Mcmaster-Carr has a Canadian shipping option on their site. Needless to say they weren't very helpful and I didn't try again. ymmv.

Yes this is a very frustrating aspect of living in the "great white north." Sometimes hard to believe Canada is the US' largest trading partner with all the difficulties imposed by the two postal services, two currencies and two interpretations of the "free trade" agreement!tele caster wrote:Mcmaster-Carr wouldn't ship to Canada, " due to the ever changing import export regulations". I have bought boards from Hoffman.
He sells it by the inch.
His Garolite is 3 1/8" wide and then minimum is 6".
It costs $.62/ft which makes it comparable to McMaster.
A 12" board costs $7.44

MdRoberts, funny thing though, I came across a seller on another forum who had a lot of garolite for sale , he sent me several lenths no problem. I don't believe it had anything to do with regulations, garolite isn't a restricted material as far as I know. I think they just didn't want to send such a small amount. It is difficult to find in Canada though.

I've used Hoffman quite a bit... With great results. I agree that McMaster-Carr just doesn't want the hassle of dealing with small shipments to Canada... and I sympathize with them... it should be easier!tele caster wrote:Hoffman charges $14 minimum for shipping to Canada.

You guys up in the great white north need to annex to the United States!
Probably most of them would go for it accept for the French Quebec side.

I live in Canada...just go down to the local electronics store and buy some. It may have copper on one side....peel it off....and for eyelets go to the dollar store, go to the craft section and buy 40 eyelets for $1.00
