Do any of you use the D type amp/speakers for non-jazz?

Post by Bob Simpson »

I love all the clips, and the amp/speakers sound really great for the jazzy stuff, but I'll probably never play that style.

I just kind of chip at blues and rock, and while I think the amp style will work for me, I'm a little concerned about the dearth of clips representing other styles.

Maybe I've just not hit the correct clips yet.

Comments/suggestions?

Bob, I posted mp3's awhile ago of one of my bands playing more classic rock style stuff. I agree, most guys here are playing more jazzy stuff, not my style either but I love my HRM's for classic rock tones. I'd repost them but I'm on a business trip right now. Try sweettoothband.com and see if the jukebox at the top of the page will work.

Thanks, Bob.

I'll check it out.

I'm waiting for my D'lite bluemonkey to show up so I can put it together,
and the clips / youtube videos I've checked were, for the most part, really good sounding, but I just don't have Carlton/Ford sounds in my head...

Thanks for the post.

Bob Simpson

p.s. Bob, I didn't find a jukebox button.
I must be doing something wrong.

Yep, stick a Chinese tube in V2 and turn the OD trimmer up!

Seriously, I really like the EVM12L and I think it probably would cover a lot of bases music wise.

A couple tweaks to the amp turns it into a plexi monster. :D

That sounds pretty cool! How does that amp compare to the ODS-101-HRM? 6L6 or EL34? Is this the one with mustards or no?

Don't remember off the top of my head what the ODS 101 is.. This one is HRM EL-34's Marshall style Power and output.. Skyline wired in rock position no Jazz switch.. w .002/500pf mid boost switch..I think that one had the low plates 100k/1.5 and the low gain od entrance..Pi is 80's style no bluesmaster..If I recall..
No mustards on this one.. OD's If you get a handful of mustards I highly recommend using them in these amps.. A 100w 700v Musicman, Bluesmaster loaded w/ Mustards with 4 KT 77's Whew. For rock stuff have a nice day!!
I'll try and post a clip of the one w/Mustards...

This style makes a great blues amp, especially the 100k plate versions.

Yea, it's odd, sometimes it doesn't show up. It should be top center on the page. Here's the direct links, I hope they work.

Jazz, ? To my dismay I haven't heard any jazz clips or been able to discuss that stuff on this site. --any other jazzers out here playing dumbles? Gotta be some , I think the jazz guys are staying out of the fray because noone on this site seems to like it. And to play jazz thru these amps is just the coolest shit.

I don't play jazz nor have had anyone who was a jazz player play on my d-style with 6l6...think of srv...if you like to get the hendrix tones then try the hrm with el34. tone is in the fingers and the electric box just makes it louder and gives it a few more harmonics to play with.
