Any of you in the Atlanta area? (esp. NW)

Post by mlp-mx6 »

Just wondering...

It'd be cool to hook up and have a homebrew Dumble-esque ampfest.

Me and the family have been to the battleground up there in kennesaw, man what a awesome place! Huge bullet holes in trees, can ya imagine the sheer terror of all that? Is Dirt Cheap still on the corner of S cobb and Windy Hill?( believe thats right) How many D`s have you built? I`ve done a bunch, but late last year was a watershed for me, even before this forum. Ya HAVE ta use a logbook for this stuff, i`ve kept most in my skull cap, but a log book is the ticket. There`s a circuit i`m chasing that WASN`T written down, but the amp was EXPLOSIVE, man was it GOOD! LOL~~ ( can remember that much! LOL!) I`ll fig it out, all ya need are decade boxes, which i have, almost have a photographic memory. Its so crazy, but i can remember looking at it and going, ok, i got it by doing this, but that`s @ it! LOL!! I was using Vishay Dales for plates @ 5 yrs ago! LOL! Even used them on the cathodes of my first build. ""Had""( whata PUN! LOL!) some help tho even back then. Crazy guys in LA seem ta KNOW it all! LOL! Good luck, if i can ever offer advice, feel free ta e-mail me @ Omegaamps@yahoo.com

Not to sound like a complete fool, but what is a decade box and what would they be useful for?

Thanks,

Andy

Aw man, no such thing as a foolish question! I have some GREAT old Heathkit boxes w/rotary switches, you just rotate to the VALUE resistor or capacitor you want, insert in circuit via the banana plugs. Great way ta fig out new things.

MLP -
have you been up this way to Ted's?

They get some pretty nice stuff in there - had a Komet and a Two-Rock Signature in there recently... and their amp tech has had quite a collection over the years and can tell some good stories.

If you come up this way, let me know!

"Dirt Cheap Music" is still right there. A couple years ago I bought a Hi-Mu head (with ALL the options, it seems) for $100. A complete steal at that price! For what it is, that little amp is really cool.

Awesome! The guy who worked there in early to mid 90`s was a GREAT guitar player ( can`t remember name) We became very good friends, he would ALWAYS do me right! LOL! Esp when boss man wasn`t around! That guy was a trip! LOL! Got a 1989 Ibanez custom Flametop for @ $250.00 in 1993!! Sold it, got it back @ 2 yrs ago, but the honeymoon was DEF over!! LOL! I`m a tele/strat/prs kinda guy now. :D
